stems is visually and thematically anchored by trunk, a slowly pulsating neon-sign that oscillates between two bold statements: “death to the universal” and “death is universal.” The contradictory nature of the statements offers a meditative polarity on what it means to be self-aware, or in other words, to be human. As such, trunk simultaneously illuminates our common mortal fate and our compulsion to overwrite understandings of difference.
