Work > Stardust [2023]

Planet Earth has long been a rallying symbol for the environmental movement, but what if we were to expand our perspective to include the entire universe? Would it give us a wider frame of imagination, engagement, and responsibility? Among the giants of our own solar system, our planet sits fragile and exposed. The outlier worlds invoke both the pessimism of dystopian science fiction and the optimism of space travel.

Stardust, made of repurposed materials including waste generated at NeoCon, suggests that entire worlds are possible with what we already have and know, especially with the ubiquity of low-grade plastics. The material basis for this installation mimics many moves toward “sustainable” repurposing happening in industrial, fashion, and architectural commercialism, but takes a DIY spin on those tactics.

Stardust was created in partnership with Farmboy. Score by Latham Zearfoss & Matt Joynt with instrumental performances by Ricky Chen and Jordan Martins. Sculptures created in collaboration with MotherTwin Productions.
